Time to study for upsc.

The most common question that civil services aspirants face is about the time they have to study.

Why?

Yes its true that the volume level of knowledge being asked is deafening but answer this

What work duties are you desiring?

The work sphere of a civil servant in all india services is demanding. And that is clearly reflected in the exam pattern.

The three tier out of text books type of exams. To test your mettle.

Now coming back to the quantum of knowledge required......

No depth perceived to gauge it

Its all about your past and how well did you gathered knowledge, from your school days through your college days and whatever days you had, you keep on accumulating knowledge.

..... and all that counts.

Give yourself a reasonable chance to know yourself before gauging the time periods you would be needing to study.

In short analyze your knowledge beginning from the basics Vis a Vis the syllabus and questions asked in the earlier exams.

How much of that you know......

This will mark the beginning of the journey that you are about to take.

Consider a case where a student knows well his science but was all sleepy eyed when social was taught in school classes.

He may have pursued science in college also. It is then assumed that for an average student his science part would be above average.

And he must be having a fair knowledge of other parts also.

He might have been watching sports so a decent knowledge must have been gathered. He might have been working on computers another practical area to gather knowledge.

In other words knowledge is not literacy as it could come from experience also.

But from exams perspective knowledge comes from literate efforts made to acquire , retain and reproduce the knowledge gathered.

Therefore if you are serious and this question is troubling you then what i would have done if i were you is to take time to analyze my knowledge base and expand it accordingly.

Also

Please recognize your potential to sit and concentrate. How much time can you give and then increase it a minute per day till you get a total dedicated time of concentrated studies of about one and a half hours. You will feel the difference.

Then as you practice this self Control increase the numbers of sitting and their durations accordingly. It varies from person to person.

To be continued some other time God willing.

All the best.

Preparing mppsc mains, new patterns

Relevance of mppsc mains 2014, with new syllabus, the strategy I would be adopting, if I had to take this mains, alas its not so, those who know me, knows.

It's clear that there are 6 compulsory papers to be prepared so as to beat the competition, with a good score.

Now this exam is a golden or platinum opportunity, for those who clear prelims. Why?

No kidding, why,

1. All experienced stuff, old experienced students, competitors, whatever name u give, are blank as of now. This exam is a blank slate for all. First timer or experienced, it would be preparation from a scratch. Although experience always pays, and experienced smarter lot will make good use of this.

2. Posts are in good numbers, chances of getting to interview are good with smart work and with good collection of ingredient material.

3. Many serious students opted out in favor of uppcs. Leaving field open for a mediocre student.

4. The first time question setting will not go into any experimentation, chances of straight forward or direct questions more.

5. There is no single ready to read material available in the market, leaving those students who are working hard with an upper hand.

And I may go on and on .....

But that was not the topic of discussion. It was the preparation part.

So straight forward talk straight from the heart is

Essentials.
1. I must be disciplined in my approach.
2. I must have a clear selection of topics that I want to master and prepare with clarity, also I must be clear in those topics which I may be leaving with a general study only, and not a detailed one.

3. I must have a clear cut set out plan for my studies to take shape over the period of time.

4. I must have enough text book basic material, and enough garnishing material from different sources.

5. I must be preparing long answers probably in 200-250 word limit, in such a manner that could easily be expanded to full answer of 60 marks, if they are asking for that. And simultaneously it could be reduced or shrinked to a shorter answer of 10-15 marks.

6. I must approach judiciously, and with evenly spaced plan, so as to cover all the papers simultaneously.

7. I must, pay full attention to hindi language paper, I feel it will rain numbers in this paper for sure.

8. For essay my preparation would be along the routine if my preparation, writing at least a couple of longer and a couple of shorter essays, just to build sufficient confidence in me.

9. I would certainly be collecting relevant questions asked in earlier exams for the topic I am preparing, and would attempt to answer them, again to practice.

10. Lastly, I would certainly discussing all the topics along with those who are preparing for the same.

So that's what I would have done, but with flexible approach to ammend, to add, to remove anything that may come in the course of time.

For the time being start your studies, do not wait for pre results.

All the best.

Mppsc mains new syllabus- a brief

As i had said i will be handling the mains syllabus, i am just bringing in few points today, as students of both exams, 2013 mains, and 2014 pre are draining my time, and i m happy for that.

First thing is that i find in this syllabus , its lengthy, infact very lengthy. Requiring preparation from beginning.

This will eliminate those candidates from serious competition who luckily or on the basis of second paper clears the prelims.

This exam, 2014 one will be a bonus if u prepare from beginning and clear the pre. The competition will be less this time, as all candidates are on same platform, same starting line. As well as all coaching have came down to same level, starting anew.

My advice today for serious aspirants is to start today, if u r also a upsc aspirant then go for this, as it bridges the gap in between.

Further writings on this topic are in pipeline, working hard on this. Will let u know asap.

Till then take care.
